SANTA ANA, CA – On April 23rd, the Santa Ana Public Library and the Santa Ana Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Agency will launch its Second Annual “State of My Heart” art exhibit. This year’s theme, My Town/Mi Pueblo, will showcase art work depicting the hometowns of Santa Ana residents. The exhibit is a collection of paintings and photographs loaned by Santa Ana residents. The collection also includes paintings and photographs highlighting the rich culture and history of the City of Santa Ana. The exhibit is a great opportunity for our younger generation to become familiar with their cultural heritage, and for our older generation to relive memories from their past and hometowns. This eclectic selection of paintings and photographs will be on display at the Santa Ana Public Library, Second Floor, Meeting Room A, from April 23 to May 12, 2012.

The exhibit will be open to the public from Monday – Thursday, 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 10:00a.m. -6:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Arts Orange County (Arts OC) and El Centro Cultural de Mexico will present “Día Del Niño”/“Day of the Child”, a featured event as part of Arts OC’s 28th Annual Imagination Celebration, a month–long county-wide festival of arts for families and children.

“Día Del Niño”/“Day of the Child”, a traditional Mexican holiday recognizes children, celebrates a child’s importance in society, and promotes their well–being. The day-long festival will take place Sunday, April 28, 2012 at Birch Park/Senior Center in Downtown Santa Ana.

The Santa Ana Public Library is pleased to present author JoAnn Petrie Carr for a discussion of her book Keeper of the Flame. Carr’s novel, is a fictionalized account of the answer to the perennial question “what was it like being married to an Apollo astronaut”, rich with her experience of what life was like as an insider in the heyday of the space program.

The Public Health Institute shared research and real-life examples in today’s webinar: Communities Creating Healthy, Active Environments. Dr. Brian Saelens from the University of Washington reported the most current research on active living, and Jeannie Jurado and Rachel Pickering reported on their work in Santa Ana, CA and Rochester, NY.

The Santa Ana City Council voted unanimously at its March 18th meeting to extend the City’s Solar Permit Fee Waiver program for an additional two years.

Since the program began in 2008, the number of solar projects in Santa Ana has risen significantly. In 2012, 65 solar projects came online, a 30 percent increase from the previous year.
